Use these paths when Buddy Cloud needs attention. BudgetBuddy support can help with status, devices, diagnostics, and reset steps, but cannot read your budget or recover a lost recovery key.

Recovery Key Guide
Your Buddy Cloud recovery key decrypts your encrypted cloud budget on trusted browsers. BudgetBuddy does not hold this key, cannot read your synced budget, and cannot recover the key for you.
SaveUnlockImportRestoreReset
Do not lose this key. If the key is permanently lost and no signed-in trusted browser can reveal it, BudgetBuddy cannot decrypt or recover the existing Buddy Cloud vault. Support will never ask you to send the key.
01
Save the key when Buddy Cloud is enabled
When the app shows Save Your Recovery Key, use Download Key before relying on Buddy Cloud as your backup.
Store the downloaded key in a private, durable place such as a password manager, encrypted drive, or locked paper backup.
Do not keep the only copy in Downloads, screenshots, chat, email, or an unlocked note.
Choose I saved my Recovery Key only after you have confirmed the backup exists.
02
Unlock or reveal the key on a trusted browser
Open BudgetBuddy, then open the account or Buddy Cloud controls. Depending on your account state, the recovery-key action may read Save Key, Unlock Key, or Recovery Key.
Complete the login verification or local unlock prompt. If the local unlock prompt appears, type UNLOCK.
The key display is temporary and locks again automatically. Use Download Key or Copy Key, then choose Lock Key when finished.
Only reveal the key on a private, trusted device.
03
Restore your budget on another browser
Sign in with the same BudgetBuddy account on the new browser. If the app says Buddy Cloud needs your recovery key, choose Import Key and paste the saved key.
The key is used locally in that browser to decrypt the Buddy Cloud vault.
BudgetBuddy does not receive or store the readable key.
After import, let Buddy Cloud finish syncing before making new budget changes.
04
Restore an earlier saved version
Use Version History only when you know which encrypted snapshot you need or support directed you there.
Open Account > Settings > Version History.
Import your recovery key if this browser does not already have it.
Choose the version, confirm Restore Selected, and wait for the restore screen to finish.
Restoring replaces this browser budget and uploads the restored encrypted vault as current. Unsynced local changes can be replaced.
05
If the recovery key is lost
First check your password manager, secure notes, downloaded files, printed backups, and any trusted signed-in browser that may still be able to reveal the key.
If a trusted browser still has access, use Save Key or Unlock Key and download a fresh backup copy.
If the key is permanently lost and no trusted browser can reveal it, open Recovery Help, choose Lost Recovery Key, then use Reset Buddy Cloud.
Reset Buddy Cloud is destructive. It removes the encrypted Buddy Cloud vault and encrypted version-history snapshots for that sign-in, keeps the login account active, clears this browser back to a blank state, and lets you create a new vault with a new recovery key.
Support-safe diagnostic rule: Diagnostics stay local unless you choose to share them. Review the JSON file first. It should not include budget contents, recovery keys, access tokens, or email.
Best habit: Keep two private copies of the recovery key in different safe places, then test that you can find the saved file before signing out or clearing browser data.
Before You Contact Support
Include what you were trying to do, the exact Buddy Cloud status shown in the app, and whether you recently signed out, reset Buddy Cloud, changed devices, or restored a snapshot.
Do not send your recovery key.
Do not send budget exports unless support specifically asks for one.
BudgetBuddy support will never ask for your Buddy Cloud recovery key. Anyone with account access plus that key can decrypt the synced budget.

For beta support, send a concise description and attach the diagnostic report only if you already reviewed it. The support inbox is being connected through Proton during beta, so keep your diagnostic report local if delivery is temporarily unavailable.
